3.5 Star · Contemporary

Once Perfect by Cecy Robson

Beware of Spoilers!

Star Ratings:

Heroine (Evelyn): 5/5

Hero (Mateo): 4/5

Plot: 3.5/5

Grovel: none

Cheating: none

HEA: yes but epilogue could have been better

Triggers: rape, incest

Average score: 3.5/5

Best Line: H to h: The way I see it, if you have someone calling you Daddy, you’ve gotta man up and be everything to that kid.

Worst Lines:

“Can Lety file for a Protection from Abuse order?”

“It’s not something we do.”

“What do you mean, it’s not something you do?”

Mateo looked at me then, his expression inflexible. “It’s a respect thing among Latinos. Our parents can do what they want to us. But we can’t do shit to them back.”

“But what if he…”

“It doesn’t matter, Evie. It’s how we were raised, no matter how much it sucks.”

Here’s the thing guys, regardless of the way that you were brought up, regardless of your culture/religion/ethnicity – EVERYONE has the right to feel safe and has the right to not be hurt so when the H was describing his father to the h – I did not agree with it

Personal Review:

This was a love story between a young woman who was abused in the past and a hot MMA fighter who is so sweet and protective of her.

There was a big jump between chapter 24 and 25 almost like there were a few chapters missing in the middle.

Random Ramblings:

  • The cookie scene made me laugh
  • Noelle’s Beyonce renditions were awesomely funny!
  • Loved that the h took her education seriously and didn’t drop her schoolwork just because of a hot guy (even though the H was super-sweet!)
  • Can’t wait to read Brody’s book – he was so funny

Overall Feeling:
